Probe In Assam Over ‘India’s Got Latent’ FIR Likely To Conclude By End Of April, SC Informed

GUWAHATI: The Supreme Court was informed on Monday, April 21, that the investigation into the FIR registered in Assam against several YouTubers, including Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, and Apoorva Mukhija, is likely to be completed by the end of April. The FIR was registered in connection with alleged obscene remarks made during the comedy show India’s Got Latent.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing on behalf of the Assam and Maharashtra governments, submitted before a bench of Justices Surya Kant and N.K. Singh that a co-accused would appear on Tuesday to record her statement, after which the probe in Assam will come to an end.

The FIRs pertain to allegedly vulgar and offensive content about parents aired during an episode of the show. Multiple complaints were filed across states, including Maharashtra and Assam.

Appearing for Ranveer Allahbadia, advocate Abhinav Chandrachud argued that the delay in concluding the investigation has affected his client’s professional obligations, including overseas travel. He submitted that Allahbadia had cooperated with investigators and appeared before police in both states when summoned.

The court was also told that the investigation in Maharashtra was nearing completion, with a charge sheet expected soon. The bench asked the solicitor general to clarify whether Allahbadia’s further presence was necessary for the Assam probe and to update on any co-accused who had not yet appeared before investigating authorities.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for April 28, and also instructed the authorities to ensure that the investigation concerning Allahbadia is completed at the earliest to facilitate a decision on his pending passport release request.
