GUWAHATI: A drive was conducted by District Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha on Tuesday night relocating the homeless from the streets of Guwahati to different shelters for their wellbeing.
The move comes after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a conference earlier on Tuesday asked the District Administration to take the necessary precautions to relocate all the homeless and street dwellers from the flyovers and roads to suitable government shelters and NGOs.
District Commissioner Jha while talking to the media said that this move was undertaken keeping in mind the increase in the number of street dwellers on the city roads.
Taking their safety into account and reducing the crime rate additionally, this move has been undertaken under the supervision of CM Sarma, Jha further added.
Jha furthermore stated that their proper relocation would also save these individuals from vulnerability by preventing them from untoward incidents and accidents at night.
