GUWAHATI: As part of a bureaucratic reshuffle of senior IAS officers, the Assam Government has through an order dated Wednesday, March 30, transferred out Guwahati Smart City Limited (GSCL) Managing Director Ghanshyam Dass.

In his place, Kamrup (Metropolitan) Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha has been given additional charge as GSCL MD.

With this, GSCL has seen as many as ten changes of leadership in the six years of its existence.

First established in 2016, GSCL was tasked to plan, design and implement projects under the Union Government’s umbrella plan to transform 100 Indian cities into smart cities through comprehensive development in institutional, physical, social and economic infrastructure. Guwahati was one of 20 cities selected under the project in its first round.

However, only a tiny fraction of GSCL’s projected targets have been achieved as of date, and Guwahati is ranked 46th out of 49 cities reviewed by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for progress of Smart City projects.
