Guwahati Restaurant Fined After Dead Lizard Found In Food

GUWAHATI: Health officials from the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) have fined Maa Kali Hotel in the Paltan Bazaar area of Guwahati a sum of ₹20,000 after a dead lizard was found in the food served at the restaurant.

After a customer found a dead lizard in his food, a scuffle broke out in the restaurant on September 25.

Following the incident, the customer lodged a complaint at the nearby Paltan Bazaar Police Station regarding violation of hygiene standards, however, the official mentioned that no FIR had been filed.

After the incident, GMC Officials during the inspection, found that the kitchen area did not meet the required hygiene standards and the facility lacked a proper area for washing utensils. Furthermore, the placement of a generator within the kitchen section was deemed improper and posed potential hazards.

The GMC officials also observed issues with the storage of both prepared food items and raw vegetables.

In response to these findings, the GMC took action in accordance with the GMC Act of 1971 and the establishment in question has been directed to rectify the identified violations promptly.

The establishment's owner has been issued a seven-day deadline to address the violations and has been asked to submit self-attested copies of documents including ID Card, Trade license, among others.

Failure to comply with these directives within the specified timeframe may result in official actions being initiated as per the provisions outlined in the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Act of 1971 and the associated bylaws and regulations.
