GUWAHATI: Incessant rain has caused landslide on the patch of a newly constructed road in Amiyanagar area of Chandmari hill near Holy Child School in Guwahati.

A big chunk of the side wall collapsed and went straight down in the area. The houses below narrowly escaped from getting hit by the broken wall.

The road was constructed under the local MLA fund and was not even a year old. The locals alleged that government authorities constructed the road poorly by just laying down cement blocks and filled the gaps with river sand. They further alleged that the PWD hired a local contractor who completed the work in haste without even taking any precautionary measures.

Furthermore, cracks have developed along the stretch. “Road Communication has been disrupted, local residents are afraid of more damages as well they fear for their lives, said Kasilash Sarma, Secretary of Save Guwahati build Guwahati.
