GUWAHATI: Tezpur University is set to undergo expansion as it plans to establish six new departments aimed at promoting interdisciplinary studies and becoming a multidisciplinary institution; coinciding with the completion of one year under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh.

The newly proposed departments include economics, psychology, political science, geography, performing arts, vocational studies, and skill development. Prof. Singh, marking his one-year milestone on April 4, highlighted the need for Tezpur University to broaden its academic offerings beyond science and engineering, thus fostering a holistic learning environment encompassing humanities and social sciences.
Each department will offer specialised programmes tailored to equip students with the requisite knowledge, skills, and practical experience essential for success in their respective fields. To accommodate the expansion, Tezpur university is awaiting the allocation of an additional 240 acres of land adjacent to its existing campus, provided by the state government.

Furthermore, the university has introduced seven new academic programmes slated to commence from the academic session 2024-25. These include Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), Bachelor in Chinese, M.Tech in Electrical Engineering, M.Tech in Data Sciences, MA in Women Studies, Master of Education (M.Ed.), and Ph.D. in Law.
