Akhil Gogoi Apologises For Controversial Remark During Panchayat Election Campaign

 

GUWAHATI: Sibsagar MLA and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi issued a public apology during a midnight Facebook Live session on Saturday, April 26, expressing regret for a controversial statement made while campaigning for Panchayat election earlier in the day. With folded hands, Gogoi admitted his comment was a mistake and sought forgiveness.

Campaigning at Naoboicha constituency in Lakhimpur, Gogoi had said that "Muslims who vote for the BJP will go to hell and will be considered 'kafirs'." The remark drew widespread criticism, leading to his late-night public apology. "As a progressive and rational person, I should not have made such a statement. I made a mistake, and I seek forgiveness from everyone for it," Gogoi said.

Gogoi has been actively campaigning across Upper Assam ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections. His comments and subsequent apology have drawn attention at a crucial time in the political season.
