Guwahati Police To Have Name Badge in Assamese

GUWAHATI: On January 26, Guwahati Commissioner of Police (CP) Harmeet Singh was seen donning a name badge, written in Assamese.

Following this there has been news reports that Assam Police will be henceforth wearing name badges written in Assamese only.

CP Harmeet Singh clarified to G Plus that there is no such official order.

Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Joint Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, speaking to G Plus said, “This is not a blanket rule for Assam Police. We can only implement such rules within our jurisdiction, that is the Kamrup (M) district.”

Mahanta said that he had introduced this rule about four years back in Kamrup (Rural) District when he was the Superintendent of Police there. Since, then he has been wearing his name badge in Assamese and so is Kamrup Police.

"Now Commissioner Harmeet Singh has also shown interest in this and has changed his name badge. So we have decided to implement the same in our district. But it is not for the entire state as it is not in my capacity to speak for other districts,” Mahanta added.
