GUWAHATI: Restrictions have been imposed on the movement of goods carrying vehicles of 6 wheels and above during Durga Puja celebrations. The vehicles have been asked to avoid entering Guwahati from 6 am to 10 pm from October 12 to October 17, as heavy traffic congestion in the city is expected by Assam Police.
In order to ensure the safety of the public, especially vulnerable road users like children, students, women, senior citizens, and differently-abled persons on the road and for free passage of emergency vehicles like ambulances, fire tenders etc, it is necessary not to allow entry of goods carrying vehicles in view of Durga Puja. This was informed by Special Director General of Police (DGP) Law and Order G P Singh on Twitter.
"The goods carrying vehicles of Kamrup (R), Goalpara, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Barpeta, Baksa, Nalbari, Darrang, Sonitpur, Bishwanath, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Marigaon district are encouraged to avoid entering Guwahati City on the aforementioned dates and times," Singh posted on Twitter.
Further, goods carrying vehicles coming to and from Lower Assam to Upper Assam and Northern Assam may take the route via Kaliabhomora Bridge over the river Brahmaputra.
