Full Refund for Haj Pilgrims Given Uncertainty of Pilgrimage This Year

GUWAHATI: The Haj Committee of India, a statutory body under the Ministry of Minority Affairs, vide a circular, informed of temporarily halting preparations for Haj 2020 with reference to communication received from Saudi Haj authorities.

In view of the several enquiries received and concerns expressed over uncertainty over Haj 2020, the committee decided that pilgrims who desire to cancel their Haj journey this year will receive a 100% refund of the amount paid for the pilgrimage without any deductions.

Further, the circular requested pilgrims who desire to cancel their Haj journey this year to fill up the cancellation form available on the Haj committee website and email the same to ceo.hajcommittee@nic.in along with a copy of bank passbook/cancelled cheque.

“We go by whatever is directed by the Haj Committee of India and right now the chances of the pilgrimage happening appear thin because around 25,00,000 people enter Saudi a month prior to commencement of Haj. This year with about 15 days left, the decision entirely depends on the government of Saudi Arabia,” said Abul Laice Choudhury, Executive Officer, Joint State Haj Committee, Assam.

“Full refund will be given to pilgrims in case the pilgrimage does not take place as announced by the Haj Committee of India,” he added.
