Gauhati HC Directs Assam Govt To Address Deficiencies In Shelter Homes

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has directed the State Government to file an affidavit detailing the measures it has taken or plans to take to address deficiencies in various shelter homes across Assam. The directive follows a suo moto Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding the conditions of shelter homes in the state.

The division bench of Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice Suman Shyam issued the directive during a recent hearing, emphasising the need to address the shortcomings identified by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs).

The reports highlighted the facilities available in these homes for children, elderly people, and other individuals, along with the identified deficiencies.

"The counsel for the State of Assam may file an affidavit detailing out the measures which the State Government has taken or proposed to take to cure the deficiencies pointed by the District Legal Services Authorities in respect of the Shelter Homes of different categories," the court stated.
