Guwahati Prepares For Third Phase Of Polling

 

GUWAHATI: The third and final phase of polling in the Kamrup Metropolitan district, part of the No. 5 Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency, is set to take place on Tuesday, May 7. The five assembly constituencies involved are Dispur, Dimoria, New Guwahati, Guwahati Central, and Jalukbari. To ensure a smooth electoral process, election materials, including Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), have been distributed, and teams of polling officers have departed for their respective booths from Maniram Dewan Trade Centre.

A special app has been developed for polling officers, allowing them to scan a QR code with their android phones to access the names and phone numbers of their teammates. Additionally, GPS tracking has been applied to each vehicle transporting polling materials, providing real-time monitoring of their routes.

The total number of voters in the Kamrup Metropolitan constituency for this election stands at 10,55,684, with 5,15,052 male voters, 5,40,596 female voters, and 36 third-gender voters. Among these, 15,960 are new voters aged 18 to 19, while 8212 are over 85 years old. The district also has 912 service voters, according to data released by the Kamrup Metropolitan election district office.

A total of 1,026 polling stations have been established in the district, with 1,283 presiding officers and 4,620 polling officers assigned to manage the polling process. Additional security personnel have been deployed to ensure order. To enhance transparency, 564 webcasts have been set up to monitor the polling process.

The Election Commission has identified 79 polling stations as critical, 87 as vulnerable, and five as remote. The commission has deployed additional security and set up 26 model polling stations and 100 polling stations manned by women officers and employees.

In preparation for the election, over 61,000 litres of illicit liquor with a market value of approximately Rs 78 lakh have been seized in Kamrup Metropolitan district since the enforcement of the election model code of conduct.
