GUWAHATI: The Assam Police seized a fake currency note printing machine in Guwahati on Sunday, May 1.
Acting on a tip-off, a special operation was launched by a team of West Police District along with Azara Police under the leadership of OC Tapan Kalita to bust a fake currency racket in the city.
Seven persons, identified as Tanmoy Das, Nazir Ahmed, Jewel Khan, Bimal Das, Habibur Rehman, Hifzur Bari and Akramul Ali, have been arrested in this regard.
The arrested are residents of Lakhimpur and different areas of Guwahati.
The police received information that some persons near Deepor Beel were trying to sell a machine that printed fake currency notes. Acting on the information, they arrested the accused from Aath (Eight) Mile, Ganesh Mandir area of Guwahati.
The machine prints currency notes of denomination two thousand rupees. Apart from the machine and fake currency notes, the Assam Police team seized a number of mobile phones, a car and a two-wheeler from the arrested persons.
The accused have been produced before the court by the Azara Police.
