GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday, 7 July, announced that Guwahati city will soon undergo an expansion that will make it even larger.

According to the CM, Guwahati will be extended till Jagiroad in the East and it will reach up to Palasbari in the West. Moreover, the Assam Chief Minister announced that both Jagiroad and Palasbari will be connected through an eight-lane super highway directly from Guwahati.

"The main idea is to connect Guwahati and Jagiroad with an eight-lane super highway so that we can keep on expanding the city. From that point on we can keep expanding Guwahati. We want to create satellite cities around Guwahati, towards Sualkuchi, North Guwahati and Tamulpur. Another expansion plan shall be forwarded towards Palasbari. Just like Noida, Gurgaon have now become part of Delhi’s NCR Region, Guwahati, too, will be taken as a centre point from where on the city can expand on three directions,” the CM said.
