Three Of Family Drown In River Near Guwahati, Bodies Recovered

 

Three members of a family drowned in the Kalong River near the Power House area in Chandrapur on Saturday, April 12. The victims – Golapi Devi and her two daughters, Nilakshi Kumari and Pankita Kumari – were swept away by strong river currents while bathing.

According to police, the youngest daughter, Pankita was first swept away while bathing prompting her sister Nilakshi and their mother to try to save her. Unfortunately, all three were caught in the current and drowned.

Rescue teams, along with local authorities, launched an immediate search operation. The bodies of Golapi Devi, Nilakshi, and Pankita were recovered from the river.

A police officer from Pragjyotishpur police station said to GPlus, “The bodies of the woman and her two daughters have been recovered. All three were swept away by the river’s strong current while bathing.”
