GUWAHATI: The renovation of the Dighalipukhuri boundary wall is now underway and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) has assured that the beautification project will not obstruct the scenic view of the historic pond, addressing earlier concerns raised by local residents.

Initially, many residents opposed the plan, fearing that the boundary wall would block the natural beauty of Dighalipukhuri. However, the ATDC later clarified that the renovation would include artistic murals along with open railings, ensuring an unobstructed view while enhancing the site's historical value.
Talking to GPlus, an official from the Assam Tourism Development Corporation explained the delay in construction. “The work could have started earlier, but there were controversies regarding the proposed flyover extending up to the Reserve Bank. When the project faced opposition, the Chief Minister announced that the flyover would not extend to that point, which led to some delays. However, after discussions with the PWD, the renovation has now begun, and we expect it to be completed by the end of this year.”
Detailing the new design, the official added, “The renovated boundary will primarily feature open grills, with mural art panels placed every 15 to 18 meters. These murals will depict Assam’s rich history and heritage, allowing visitors—especially those from outside the state—to understand the historical significance of Dighalipukhuri.”
