Prime Accused Arrested For Murder Of Painter During Holi Celebration In Guwahati’s Basistha

 

GUWAHATI: Guwahati police on Monday, March 17, arrested the primary accused linked to the death of a painter during Holi celebrations in Basistha’s Bangali Basti, Latakota Path. This development brings the total number of arrests to three, as two individuals were already apprehended for the incident on Saturday.

The argument leading to the incident took place among four painters, which escalated into a violent altercation. The victim, identified as 40-year-old Shankar Biswas, was allegedly beaten unconscious. He was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The main accused, Pintu Ray, also known as Bekra, had fled the scene following the assault. While two individuals identified as Dependra Ch. Dev alias Shibu and Subhash Roy were earlier arrested on March 15, authorities managed to apprehend Ray in Jalukbari on Monday.

According to reports, the situation had initially been reported as a dispute among labourers, with locals intervening before the police arrived.

Authorities have confirmed that the matter remains under investigation, and further probes are being conducted to determine the exact cause of the altercation.
