NCB Seize Drugs Worth ₹88 Crore in Guwahati and Imphal

 

GUWAHATI: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized methamphetamine tablets worth ₹88 crore and arrested four members of an international drug cartel in operations conducted in Guwahati and Imphal. Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the development on Sunday.

“No mercy for drug cartels,” Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday, March 16, shared an update about the development on X. “Accelerating the Modi government’s march towards a drug-free Bharat, a massive consignment of methamphetamine tablets has been seized, and 4 members of the international drug cartel are arrested in Imphal and Guwahati zones.”

According to an official statement, NCB officers in Imphal had intercepted a truck near Lilong and recovered 102.39 kg of methamphetamine tablets hidden in the vehicle’s toolbox. Two suspects were arrested at the scene, while a third individual, believed to be the receiver, was later detained.

In a simultaneous operation, NCB officers from the Guwahati Zone had also intercepted an SUV near the Assam-Mizoram border at Silchar and recovered 7.48 kg of methamphetamine concealed inside the spare tire. The occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody.

Authorities suspect that the drugs were sourced from Moreh, Manipur, and were intended for delivery in Assam's Karimganj. Investigations are underway at the moment to identify other individuals involved in the cartel.
