Cycle Rally held in the city on the occasion of 'World Population Day'

GUWAHATI: On the eve of 'World Population Day', National Health Mission and Kamrup Metro District Administration organised a bicycle rally to spread awareness about family planning and the importance of population control.

Deputy Commissioner Kamrup (M) Virendra Mittal inaugurated the rally and cycled the entire stretch from Assam Engineering Playground, Chandmari to Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH), Panbazar.

Around 80 cyclists took part in the rally which consisted members of the Media Person's Cycling Club.

Speaking on the occasion, Mittal highlighted the need to control population in view of the shrinking resources. He also spoke about carrying out intensive awareness campaigns to sensitize the target population about using family planning methods and he hoped that this cycle rally would be able to spread the message about limiting one's family for holistic development of the society.

“Unchecked population growth has resulted in social imbalances and all sections of the society must join hands for controlling the population for contributing to nation building process.” Mittal said.
