CID busts illegal call centre, arrests 37 people including 9 girls in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The state’s criminal investigation department (CID) has busted an illegal call centre at Zoo Road in Guwahati.

The call centre, identified as 'Avenir Pvt. Ltd', was run by an unauthorized company.

In a press conference held on May 21, CID officials said that they have arrested as many as 37 persons including 9 girls who were allegedly involved in making fraud calls to customers to loot them.

Police has nabbed the main accused in the case, Rajesh Khan alias Rajesh Mukherjee alias Rajesh Bhai, who hails from Gujarat.

CID also recovered 22 monitors, 40 CPUs, 2 pen drives, 1 laptop and 32 mobile phones. Additionally, documents of the company and a diary in which the script the callers used was also recovered.

It should be mentioned that the call centre has a database of around 7,00,000 American citizens and the company earns approximately RS 50,000,00 per month by duping the people listed in the database.

Around 40-45 employees work in 'Avenir Pvt. Ltd', which has been running in Guwahati since February this year.

A case is registered in CID PS 12/2019 under section 120B, 419, 420, 468, 471, 384 IPC read with section 66 IT Act.
