BJP starts Vijay Sankalp from Silchar; massive Modi rally

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed a large number of BJP workers in a massive rally in Silchar. The BJP is gearing up to win those 121 Lok Sabha seats that it lost in 2014. This rally in Silchar is the clarion call for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

The Vijay Sankalp Yatra will start from Silchar and the large gathering in the northeast is also directed towards West Bengal.

Addressing the party workers in the rally, PM Modi said, "Assam is not just a land but a vibrant society of huge resources filled with rich culture. Here’s a government committed to the tradition, the language of the State. The Central government has decided to implement the clause six of the Assam Accord, which was stuck from the past 30-35 years. Clause 6 assures protection for the identity and culture of Assamese people."

The rally has gained importance as the state has been witnessing a large number of consistent protests by various organisations against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016. The BJP government has been widely criticised for bringing out the bill. The BJP is taking advantage of the support for the bill by various organisations in the Barak Valley.
