Gautam Barua Steps Down As IIIT Guwahati Director

 

GUWAHATI: Professor Gautam Barua has concluded his tenure as the Director of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Guwahati, stepping down after a notable period of service. With an association dating back to the institute's inception in 2015, Professor Barua first served as a Mentor Director before assuming the role of regular Director.

Prior to his tenure at IIIT Guwahati, Professor Barua was affiliated with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, where he joined in 1995 as classes commenced. Notably, he held the position of Director at IIT Guwahati for a decade, from 2003 to 2013.

Throughout his illustrious career, Professor Barua has been deeply engaged with various institutions in the North-East region, particularly central institutions. He served as the Chairman of Boards for esteemed institutions such as NIT Silchar, NERIST Itanagar, and CIT Kokrajhar.

Additionally, he played pivotal roles in the Boards or Executive Councils of Manipur University, Sikkim University, Cotton State University, and NIT Agartala. Notably, he also assumed the position of Director with additional charge at NIT Silchar for two and a half years.

Having commenced his academic journey at IIT Kanpur, Professor Barua marks 42 years as an academician, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the institutions he has been associated with. While stepping down from his role as Director of IIIT Guwahati, Professor Barua will continue his association with the institute as Professor Emeritus.
