GUWAHATI: The voter turnout recorded in Assam was 85.45 percent in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The overall voter turnout percentage came to be 81.56, with the conclusion of the Lok Sabha Polls.
With eligible voters reaching their respective polling booths defying unfavourable weather conditions, the constituencies of Kokrajhar (ST), Dhubri, Barpeta, and Guwahati has seen significant surge in the percentage since morning..

Four Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam are voting today in the third phase of elections on May 7. The outcome will be decided for 47 candidates competing to win in these four constituencies.
Amongst the candidates, six of them are women who are running for office in this third and final phase of voting in Assam.
Everyone is keenly focusing on the important Guwahati seat, where both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress have nominated female candidates – Bijuli Kalita Medhi and Mira Borthakur Goswami, respectively.
Both Goswami and Medhi were among the first voters to cast their votes in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
Congress candidate Goswami, who voted at the Narbam Lower Primary School polling station, after casting her vote, said , "I am thankful to the citizens who have showed up despite such weather conditions. I extend my request to the rest to exercise their right and pray to 'Maa Kamakhya' that the condition further improves.
On the other hand, BJP candidate Medhi cast her vote at Pub Guwahati High School in Jyotinagar. She said she had sought the blessings of ‘Baba Bajrangbali’ and ‘Maa Ugratara’ before coming to vote.
“I will now visit other polling centres and speak to voters,” she said while calling upon the people to come out and vote in large numbers for a healthy democracy.

Voting began for the third phase of the general election, covering 93 Lok Sabha seats across 12 states and union territories.
In this phase, more than 1300 candidates are running for office, with about 120 of them being women. 172.4 million eligible voters can cast their ballots at 185,000 polling stations.
