Bharat Bandh on 2nd September

The Central Trade Unions (CTUs) have demanded a Bharat Bandh and called for a nationwide strike on 2nd september. As a result of the strike, all factories, banks, and business sectors are likely to shut down this Friday.  The bandh has been called by the leading trade unions of the country in protest of the Government's failure to fulfill their 12 point charter of demands. The demands of the strike includes - raising of the minimum wage from Rs 9,000 to Rs 18,000, putting an end to the disinvestment of Coal India and ceasing sanction of coal blocks to private companies, calling off foreign investments in the defence and pharmaceutical sectors in the country. The strike has been unanimously called by nearly 5 lakh union workers.
