All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal complained that the Congress has betrayed his party as they had a “gentleman’s agreement” with the party to fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Lok Sabha elections.

“We made a decision to contest three seats for the general elections to block the BJP votes and we did not want votes to get divided. Congress promised they wouldn’t put up a strong candidate against me. Now they have put up strong candidates everywhere,” said Ajmal.

The AIUDF is contesting from three Lok Sabha seats this time namely Dhubri, Karimganj and Barpeta constituencies.

He also expressed his displeasure over Congress fielding strong candidates in the constituencies from where the AIUDF candidates are also contesting the Lok Sabha elections.

"We left the seats so that the Congress can defeat the BJP, but they are now even fighting against us,” Ajmal further said.
