Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the Hyperloop testing facility at IIT Madras on Saturday, March 15, and praised Baruah’s team for their efforts. The minister stated that the testing system for Hyperloop transportation has been developed entirely using indigenous technologies. He also expressed confidence that India would soon be ready to implement Hyperloop transportation, given the positive results achieved in the ongoing tests.

The 410-meter-long Hyperloop test track at IIT Madras Discovery Campus is currently the longest in Asia. Hyperloop technology is a futuristic high-speed train system that operates in a vacuum-sealed tube, which reduces friction and allows for rapid transit. The Indian Railways has additionally extended financial and technical assistance to the project.

Relatedly, Baruah’s contributions extend beyond the Hyperloop project. He has previously worked as a software engineer at Indian Railways, where he led the creation of a Data Analyzing Platform. At SLB, he worked on enhancing data ingestion using Python and Airflow. His expertise also includes cloud computing on Microsoft Azure and software development in Python.

At the Centre for Innovation, Baruah developed the Insti Space App, which garnered over 6,000 downloads and 3,000 active users. His work in software engineering and user-centric design has been lauded as an instrumental factor in the ongoing Hyperloop project.
