GUWAHATI: A woman named Madhubala had to spend more than three years in a detention camp for foreigners due to an alleged blunder by Assam's border police.
A woman with a similar name, Madhumala was the real accused who should have been put in the detention camp, according to a report by The Hindu.
The victim, Madhubala Mandal, 59, had been placed in the Kokrajhar detention centre since she was arrested by the police in 2016 on charges of being a foreigner.

She belongs to No.1 Bishnupur village in Chirang district.
Mandal's family has confirmed that the police have made a mistake as the two names sound very similar.
Her sister-in-law, Bhasani Mandal also said that the real accused, Madhumala Das, her husband and son died a long time ago.
