Assam Unveils New Reforms For Selection Of Anganwadi Supervisors

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government, in its State Cabinet Meeting, held on January 1, 2024, approved a series of measures aimed at ensuring the selection of well-qualified candidates for the crucial role of Anganwadi Supervisors to elevate the standards of Anganwadi services in the state.

The decision has been undertaken to enhance the quality of childcare and nutrition services provided through the Anganwadi system.

Key highlights of the approved guidelines include:

-    The provision for the appointment of Anganwadi Supervisors. A significant 25% of the total posts of Supervisors in General Area districts will now be filled among in-service Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), ensuring that individuals with hands-on experience and a deep understanding of community needs are entrusted with supervisory roles.

-    The upper age limit for Anganwadi Workers applying for supervisory positions has been removed, enabling a wider pool of experienced candidates to participate in the selection processes.

-    The selection process will now include a written Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) test and a Computer Proficiency Test. These additions aim to assess the candidates' knowledge, skills, and technological proficiency, ensuring that those selected possess the necessary qualifications to effectively fulfill their responsibilities.

-    The selection process will be conducted at the State level, overseen by the Director of Women and Child Development. This is anticipated to streamline the evaluation process, maintain uniform standards, and contribute to the overall efficiency of the Anganwadi system.
