Assam to host GST Council Meeting; 24 states confirm participation

Assam is all set to host the two day council meeting on 9th and 10th of November. Twenty four states have confirmed their participation in the conclave.

Speaking at a press conference held at Guwahati on Monday, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "The Guwahati meeting is significant because it will review the implementation of GST. In addition, the reports of three committees - on composition scheme, retionalization of rates and GST network will also be discussed."

Apart from Andhra Pradhesh, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, rest all the states have confirmed their participation in the conclave. Union Minister Arun Jaitley will attend the meet along with the Chief Ministers and the Finance Ministers of the states. Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramaniam will also be present.

The state expects over 200 participants to be present at the GST council, which Assam is hosting for the first time. 

Speaking about the impact in Assam, Sarma said revenue collection in the state went up from Rs 330 crore in August, a month after GST was rolled out, to Rs 486 crore in October.
