Assam: Three Hmar Militants Killed In Police Encounter At Cachar

 

GUWAHATI: Three Hmar People's Convention Democratic (HPDC) militants were killed in a clash with the police in the Bhuban Pahar area on the Assam-Mizoram border in Cachar, on Wednesday, July 17.

According to reports, the militants were arrested on Tuesday and were being escorted for a search operation when the ambush occurred, prompting police to return fire.

Based on a tip-off, police raided Ganga Nagar in Cachar on Tuesday evening, arresting three youths and seizing an AK-47 rifle, a pistol, and several rounds of ammunition. Early Wednesday morning, a police team took the three militants to the Bhuban Pahar area for a search operation.

During the operation, militants hiding in the hills opened fire on the police team, leading to an hour-long gunfight. The three militants accompanying the police were killed in the encounter. Two militants were from Cachar and one from Manipur, all members of the Hmar militant group.

Following the encounter, the area was cordoned off and an intensive search operation was launched.
