Assam: Skill City to be set up at Mangaldoi

GUWAHATI: Good news for Assam youth who have been travelling to other states for learning various trades and other vocational courses as the state government has announced to set up a Skill City at Mangaldoi. 

The Skill City will be a centre of excellence and will have different schools of trade that will cater to the students from Assam and northeast India.

“Presently there are 369 skill development centres imparting training on 150 different trades operating in the state and the target is to skill 1.50 lakh,” announced Employment and Entrepreneurship Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary.

Earlier, Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) had signed a MoU with the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Singapore to set up a Multi-Skill Education Institute in Assam. “Commencing from December, 400 students will be trained per year in three areas namely (a) retail (b) tourism and hospitality and (c) beauty and wellness. Thirty teachers who were trained in Singapore will impart the training here. Besides, faculty from Singapore will also visit the campus to skill the students,” informed Patowary.

Concluding the nine-day long event of the World Youth Skill Symposium, the minister on 24th July, inaugurated the new office building of Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) at Katabari, Guwahati and also launched the toll-free number and website of ASDM.

AP Tiwari, Mission Director, ASDM informed that 11 MoUs were signed with Advanced Training Institutes at the Skill Symposium to skill and deploy the students in various industries upon completion of the training programme.
