Assam Police Officer Detained For Alleged Bribery Incident

 

GUWAHATI: The In-charge (IC) of Majuli's Balisapori Police Outpost under the Garmur Police Station in Assam, Deepjyoti Kakoty, has been detained following allegations of soliciting bribes while carrying out his official duties.

 

Kakoty was allegedly caught red-handed on Tuesday demanding a sum of ₹2,500 in exchange for the release of a detained youth, identified as Dibyajyoti Nath.

Upon learning of the bribery attempt, the authorities swiftly intervened and transferred Nath’s case to the Garmur Police Station for further questioning under the supervision of Pratim Gogoi, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Majuli Police Station.

While speaking to G Plus, the Superintendent of Police of the Majuli District, Bibekananda Das said, “We have transferred the IC to the Garmur Police Station for further interrogation and to ensure the investigation is carried out impartially. Further details will be revealed as the investigation progresses.”
