Assam: Flood Waters Inundate Kaliabor After Brahmaputra Embankment Breach

 

GUWAHATI: At 10 AM today, a significant portion of the Kaliabor sub-division was engulfed by floods after a sudden collapse of the Brahmaputra River embankment at Hatimura.

The unexpected surge of water has led to widespread inundation, impacting numerous families in the area. Assam Cabinet Minister and Kaliabor MP, Keshab Mahanta, reported the incident and emphasised that the local and district administrations are actively managing the crisis.

He assured that both the Nagaon district and Kaliabor sub-divisional administrations have mobilised relief efforts to support the affected families. The government has assigned one official to each revenue village, ensuring smooth execution of relief operations.

The flood, caused by the collapse of a section of the embankment, has created a challenging scenario for the local population. Mahanta called for calm and urged residents to follow safety precautions diligently.
