The complaint, registered as case number 390/24, was filed at Nalbari Police Station under sections 294, 506, and 511 of the Indian Penal Code. This action follows a directive from the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Nalbari district, which instructed police to initiate the FIR against Deka.
The case stems from allegations brought forward by Arpana Sarmah, the circle officer of Paschim Nalbari Revenue Circle, who accused DC Deka of alleged mental harassment and misconduct. Initially, Sarmah’s FIR received no response, prompting her to seek judicial intervention. The court’s involvement ensured the FIR's registration, thereby reinforcing legal protocol.
Talking to GPlus, a police official from Nalbari police station said, "The case was registered yesterday on November 6 and the investigations are underway. We can come to a conclusion only after that."
The alleged incident occurred on May 7, 2024, while Sarmah was overseeing the issue and receipt counter for the 40-Tihu LAC. She claims that DC Deka publicly humiliated her, questioning why materials stored in trunks had not been moved to their designated locations by labourers. In her complaint, Sarmah stated that she attempted to document the exchange, as she felt Deka was persistently harassing her. Feeling unsafe, Sarmah ultimately sought refuge at the Nalbari Police Station to formally report the incident.
