Assam Police on Sunday, April 11, busted an illegal Aadhaar card center in Dibrugarh. Three persons have been detained from the illegal center which was operating in Paltan Bazar area of the city.
Reportedly, the arrested persons have been identified as Dipen Doley (29), Bitupan Deori (27), and Aibi Deori (30). All the three persons involved with the Aadhaar Card scam hails from Lakhimpur, which is around 120 km away from Dibrugarh city.
Items such as computers, laptops, Aadhaar card forms, and Rs 5000 in cash were seized by police from the detained persons. A Tata Nexon car has also been seized along with the other items. Police said the accused persons used to charge Rs. 300 from people for making one illegal Aadhaar card.
Police sources suspect that this could be part of a greater nexus and many illegal Aadhaar centers may be operating within the state. "We are investigating the case and very soon there will be a crackdown against all illegal Aadhaar centers operating in Dibrugarh," said Rajiv Saikia, Officer-in-charge of Dibrugarh police station, according to an NDTV report.
