GUWAHATI: The Secretary to the Assam Excise Department and an ACS officer, Indreswar Kalita, was arrested by the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell on Wednesday, January 29 on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
According to reports, the vigilance officials searched Kalita’s flat in Nirvana Apartment, Sundarpur. The senior bureaucrat is accused of accumulating wealth beyond his earnings. The raid followed a complaint lodged with the CM Vigilance Cell. Kalita reportedly also owns land and other assets across the city.
A Panbazar police station official told GPlus, "The raid and subsequent arrest of Indreswar Kalita were carried out by the CM's Special Vigilance Cell. Following a medical examination, he was brought to Panbazar police station for safe custody."
