Assam Cabinet Approves Construction Of Four More Medical College and Hospitals

 

Guwahati: The construction of four new medical college and hospitals in Assam got the State Cabinet's approval today, May 3. The new hospitals are slated to come up in Bongaigaon, Dhemaji, Golaghat and Morigaon districts. 

The hospitals will be constructed under the NABARD Infrastructure Development Assistance (NIDA) and implemented by the Assam Infrastructure Financing Authority (AIFA). The total cost of the project stands at Rs 2000 crores. 

Assam presently has eight medical college and hospitals (MCH), the eighth being inaugurated in Lakhimpur district in February. Six more will be completed by 2025. The Dhubri MCH will be completed by 2023, while the ones at Nalbari, Kokrajhar and Tinsukia are to be completed by 2024. The Charaideo and Biswanath MCHs are to be completed by 2025. 

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced that the foundation stone of five medical colleges will be laid this year at Dhemaji, Morigaon, Golaghat, Bongaigaon, Baksa/Tamulpur districts, while work on another two will begin in 2023 in Sivasagar and Karimganj, and one at Goalpara in 2024.
