Assam: Benefits Of Orunodoi Scheme To Be Expanded

 

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has decided to expand the benefits of the Orunodoi Scheme. The planned coverage will come into action from September 10 this year.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Public Health Engineering, Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship, and Tourism, Jayanta Mallabaruah in the press briefing on cabinet decisions held on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media, Mallabaruah informed that an additional 7 lakh beneficiaries are set to be covered under the Orunodoi Scheme. The new beneficiaries will be provided ₹1,250 per month from September 10 onwards.

Mallabaruah further informed that the selection process of the additional beneficiaries has been put into motion.

Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also reiterated this decision taken in the weekly cabinet meeting.

The Orunodoi Scheme was launched on October 2, 2020. Under this scheme, monetary benefits have been envisaged for more than 26 lakh poor households in the state.

The two objectives of the scheme are the economic empowerment of women and taking the economically weaker section from Below Poverty Line (BPL).
