GUWAHATI: A team from Assam showcased extraordinary performance at the 7th MMA India National Championship 2024, organised in Raipur, Chhattisgarh winning a total of 16 medals.

The competition hosted from May 8 to May 12 saw the Assam players win 7 gold medals, 5 silver, and 4 bronze medals. With the participation of almost 600 athletes from 26 states and U.T.s, many combat sports athletes from Assam brought name and fame by exhibiting stellar performances and also getting selected for future tournaments and championships, in Asia and the rest of the world.

Talking to GPlus, Akash Mathew, General Secretary of United Assam Mixed Martial Arts Association said, “The players showed great performances. It was a mixed bag comprising players of different age groups, some were youth fighters and others were adults. It was an amateur competition and we are hoping for more such opportunities.”
The list of gold medalists are Tun Tun Chetia (83.9kg), Pragya P. Khanikar(52 kg), Niranjan Das (52.2 kg), Shamchak Mochang (52 kg), Bhagyakshi Das (40 kg), Kranti Kushal(31 kg), and Deep Sarkar(37 kg). The silver medal winners are Arshad Ali(Bantamweight), Puja Koch(52 kg), Ehsan Ahmad (48 kg), Tajmeen Khan (52 kg), and Ashish Deb(70.3 kg).
The bronze medalists are Jyoti Bora(70.3 kg), Manas Boro(56.7 kg), Rayhant Borpatra Gohain (67 kg), and Sujita Minj(47.7 kg).
