GUWAHATI: In a series of operations on November 29, Hailakandi Police intercepted multiple vehicles laden with illegal Burmese supari during routine naka checking. The efforts of law enforcement led to significant seizures and apprehension of individuals involved in the illicit trade.
A 12-wheeler truck was intercepted by Ramnathpur police. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed two secret chambers loaded with illegal Burmese supari, totaling a weight of 2115 kg. The illegal stash was seized, and the accused, identified as Hanish Uddin (27 years old), hailing from Panchgram, was apprehended.
In another operation, the O/C of Bilaipur PS and staff intercepted a vehicle. A search uncovered 30 sacks of illegal Burmese supari weighing 1550 kg hidden in secret chambers. The supari, along with the vehicle, was seized.
During naka checking, another vehicle, en route from Mizoram to Bilaipur, was intercepted. Four sacks of illegal Burmese supari were discovered and seized along with the vehicle. The accused, identified as Satyasundar Das alias Surajit Das, hailing from Dholcherra FV was apprehended.
In a separate incident, a hatchback loaded with one sack of illegal Burmese supari, amounting to 222 kg, was also intercepted.
Further investigations are underway.
