Speaking at the Republic Day function in Dibrugarh where he hoisted the Tricolour, the chief minister outlined his vision for transforming Assam from a "dependent to a contributory state," emphasising self-reliance and growth.
This is the first time that a chief minister unfurled the Tricolour in Dibrugarh.
Among the key announcements was the establishment of a new Department of Startups to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the state.
Additionally, in a move to integrate holistic development into education, Sarma declared that chess would be included in school curriculums to foster critical thinking and mental growth among students.
The chief minister also revealed plans to enhance Dibrugarh's political significance by hosting a session of the Assam Legislative Assembly in the city starting in 2027. This decision, he stated, has been taken to decentralise governance and elevate the city's prominence in state politics.
Further initiatives announced were to transform Tezpur as the state's cultural capital, and the implementation of a Raj Bhawan in the city, while Silchar has received the nod to house a Mini Secretariat & Chief Secretary's Office.
Finally, Sarma congratulated the state’s Padma Shri awardees Anil Kumar Boro, Gita Upadhyay, Joynacharan Bathari, and Reba Kanta Mahanta for their contributions to literature, education, and the arts.
