As per the Department of School Education’s notification on April 2, 28 LP Schools will be designated as ‘Deori Medium Lower Primary Schools’, while 98 LP Schools will be recognised as ‘Tiwa Medium Lower Primary Schools’. This decision is expected to enhance linguistic and cultural preservation, while also improving learning outcomes for children by providing education in their home language.
The new language policy will be implemented from the Academic Session 2025-2026. The government has also released Annexure-A and Annexure-B, listing the respective schools under each category.
This move has been widely appreciated by linguistic and cultural organisations, as it strengthens the commitment to safeguarding Assam’s indigenous heritage and ensuring inclusive education for all communities.
