Two Arrested For Attempted Sexual Assault In Moving Bus In Assam’s Sribhumi

 

GUWAHATI: Assam Police arrested two individuals on Wednesday, April 2 for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a young woman in a moving passenger bus operated by the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC). The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, April 1.

Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das, addressing the media at a press conference, confirmed that two of the three suspects involved in the crime had been apprehended. The accused have been identified as Jashim Uddin Laskar, a resident of Panchgram, and Abul Salam from Silchar. The bus has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation. The arrests were made after an analysis of CCTV footage and technical investigations. 

Meanwhile, the third suspect remains at large, with police intensifying efforts to track him down. 

The victim, who was hospitalised following the incident, is reportedly in stable condition and is expected to be discharged soon.

The assault attempt has led to massive protests, with members of the Hindu Raksha Dal staging a road blockade at AOC Point, demanding swift justice and stringent action against the culprits.
