The Central Government on Friday decided to withdraw four heritage sites of Assam from its ‘Adopt A Heritage’ scheme. The Union Tourism Ministry reportedly planned to hand over world heritage site Kaziranga National Park (KNP) and three Sivasagar-based archaeological sites — Rang Ghar, Kareng Ghar and Shiva Dol — to a private company. This now has been withdrawn revealed sources from state tourism body.

On being enquired, sources in Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) informed G-plus that they have not received any official order from the Central Government. But the sources have stated that the state tourism minister Chandan Brahma has instructed the officials to remove the four names from the list.

Under the 'Monument Mitra' scheme the union government plans to entrust heritage sites/monuments and other tourist sites to private sector companies, public sector companies and individuals for the development of tourist amenities around these sites.
