GUWAHATI: The Hare Krishna Movement, Guwahati is going to celebrate Krishna Janmashtami this year from August 18 to August 21 at Hare Krishna Mandir in North Guwahati.
A press meet was organised by the Hare Krishna Movement on August 17 regarding the 4-day celebration of Krishna Janmashtami. Janardhana Dasa, President of Hare Krishna Movement, Guwahati made an appeal to everyone to participate in this festival with family and friends on all four days.
On August 20, the Nandotsav festival will be celebrated which also coincides with Vyasa Puja which is held on the occasion of the 126th Birth anniversary of AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada the Founding Acharya of the Worldwide Hare Krishna Movement.
Programme Highlights:
• Abhishekam or the bathing of the deities will be performed on August 19 followed by naam Kirtan which will be held throughout the day.
• A program of Chappan Bhog will be held on August 19 and August 20 where more than 108 food items will be offered to all the devotees.
• The Heritage Festival will be held from August 16 to August 21. The festival will include an enlightening cultural contest for students of Class 1 to Class 10. The contest will be organised to give them a unique opportunity to participate in cultural events. All the events will be held inside the IIT campus.
• Another Cultural Program will be held from August 17 to August 21. Prominent artists of the country and state will be sharing the stage in this program. Different art forms will be performed from 4pm onwards every day. Renowned artists like Kailash Talukdar, Tarali Sharma, Om Chetry, Simanta shekhar, Anjan Hazarika, and Sangita Kakoti will be performing their programs.
• Vyasa Puja will be held on August 20. A grand abhishekam will be performed and prasadam will be distributed.
Vijay Gopal said, “More than 100 volunteers are helping us this time. We have arranged free Prashad distribution for all the devotees and volunteers. At lunch and dinner time, we will provide a full meal. The rest of the time we will distribute Khichri and Kheer. We are arranging another unit where cakes and biscuits will be offered. There will be another counter from where you can take prashad to members of your family who couldn't visit the mandir.”
Speaking to G Plus, Vice President Vijay Pandit Dasa said, “When the mandir was inaugurated in 2021, around 40,000 devotees visited the mandir. This year, we are expecting a minimum of 1,00,000 devotees. A parking lot has also been arranged for them."
