GUWAHATI: Srinivas Bhadravathi Venkata, the national president of the Youth Congress, is scheduled to appear before Guwahati Police on Monday in connection with a harassment case filed by Angkita Dutta, a former leader of the Assam Youth Congress.

Official sources said Srinivas BV landed in Guwahati at around 9:30 AM and will subsequently appear before the DCP (East).

A large gathering of Congress workers welcomed the Youth Congress leader at the airport.

Ahead of Srinivas BV's visit, the Guwahati Police enforced Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure within the city limits.

The legal provision prohibits gatherings of more than five people and has been implemented to address concerns regarding overcrowding and potential unrest.

In a directive released by the Guwahati Police Commissioner's office, sit-in protests and rally gatherings have been explicitly banned, and the police have taken steps to prevent such activities.

This directive is applicable to all three police districts of the city, highlighting the authorities' comprehensive approach to ensuring public safety and maintaining peace.

It should be noted that in April, Angkita Dutta, the expelled president of the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress (AIYC), filed a complaint against Srinivas BV at Dispur Police Station, accusing him of harassment over the past six months.

Angkita Dutta is the eldest daughter of the late Anjan Dutta, former Assam Transport minister and former president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.
