West Karbi Anglong District No Longer A Disturbed Area: Assam Government

 

GUWAHATI: The District of West Karbi Anglong, Assam no longer falls under the tag of “disturbed Area” under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), says a government notification issued by the Political (A) Department, Government of Assam, dated October 15, 2022.

"From October 1, 2022, the Governor is pleased to withdraw the declaration of the disturbed area from the said district. However, in pursuance to the notification, the remaining eight districts and one sub-division still fall under the disturbed area tag," read the government notification. 

The eight Districts are as follows- Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao. The one Sub Division is Lakhipur of Cachar District. 

The above-mentioned Districts and Sub Divisions will remain under the disturbed area tag for a further six-month period from October 1, 2022, onwards or unless withdrawn earlier says the notification.
