We Are Ready And Alert For Monkeypox: Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta

GUWAHATI: The Assam Minister of Health and Family Welfare Keshab Mahanta stated on Tuesday, August 2 that the Assam Government is prepared for the deadly virus Monkeypox.

Immediate treatment will be provided by the doctors if any symptom is found, said the minister when questioned by media about the state’s preparedness.

Keshab Mahanta added, “We are alert and prepared. But we have not thought about any screening test yet. The health department is ready for it. Till now, Monkeypox has claimed one person’s life in India.”

About the rising cases of Japanese Encephalitis in Assam, the minister said, “We are keeping a record of the death toll all the time. About 320 cases of Japanese Encephalitis have been reported so far. The death toll is 51 across the state. Patients are being treated and we have also arranged civil hospitals for the affected. We are trying to detect the virus at the primary care centres.”
