Waterlogging Strikes Guwahati After Heavy Rain

GUWAHATI: The city of Guwahati is grappling with severe waterlogging after multiple showers over the past 24 hours. Heavy rainfall, which began on June 2, has caused widespread flooding, severely disrupting daily life and raising concerns over public safety and infrastructure resilience.

Waterlogging has been reported from various parts of the city such as Rajgarh, Ulubari, Nabin Nagar, Hatigaon, Chandmari, Zoo Road, GS Road, and also sections of BK Kakati Road.

Streets are inundated with water levels reaching up to three feet in some parts, making them impassable for both vehicles and pedestrians. Multiple vehicles have also come to a standstill due to technical failures after getting stuck in the water.

Local residents of the city have expressed frustration over the recurring issue of waterlogging, which has plagued the city during the monsoon season for years now.
"Every year, we face the same problem, and it seems like there are no permanent solutions in sight. Our homes and businesses suffer immensely," said Rina Das, a resident of Nabin Nagar, while talking to GPlus.

The flooding has also impacted public transportation. Transportation and connectivity have been hit due to the flooding.
Due to the waterlogging, there are traffic jams in different stretches of the city,  making the city traffic come to standstill, as places with no waterlogging are also getting affected equally.

Meanwhile, weather forecasts indicate that heavy rains are likely to continue over the next few days with the situation yet to be assessed.
