The action was taken under the corporation's ongoing cleanliness drive, "Our Guwahati, Our Responsibility," and was shared via X on Friday, April 25.
GMC further reiterated that throwing garbage on roads is a punishable offence and urged residents to act responsibly to maintain public cleanliness. The civic body has consistently emphasised that collective participation is crucial in ensuring a cleaner Guwahati.
Earlier this month on April 8, the authorities had fined an eatery located on BN Saikia Road ₹3,000 for illegally dumping waste by the roadside.
In a separate incident on March 24, a bakery on CPB Road was also penalised ₹30,000 for discharging wastewater directly into the public drainage system. While issuing the fine, GMC stated that repeated warnings had been issued to commercial establishments to adhere to Swacchata guidelines, and non-compliance would attract strict action.
Further back, on March 10, a resident of Aurobindo Path was fined ₹5,000 for blocking a drainage system, while a food cart from MS Road, Fancy Bazar, was removed after failing to maintain hygiene standards despite multiple warnings.
GMC has maintained that its campaign against sanitation violations will continue throughout the year.
